Hello friends,
I need help to create a website where a user can sign in and submit their articles. Other users can read, rate and comment the articles. Every user can have a profile where they can manage their submitted articles and view ratings, feedbacks and comments. Administrators should be able to manage articles and categories etc.
Which CMS platform is well suited for this kind of sites?
It would be great if the cms contains the following features like web2.0 with light code, high security, highly customizable and flexible with lot of support.

How to design, How to start? how much time would it take to launch the site? are some questions in mine. I already own a domain and hosting account.

Check out Joomla! - It has tons of free templates & mods that should give you what you want & takes less than a day to set up- allow extra time if you plan to create your own template (how much extra depends entirely on you)

Yeh most of the major CMS's fill your needs smile.gif

If you have the time though I highly recommend trying to build it on your own. Its a great starting point. We can help you through the process too.

Great idea! Designing a new cms would be very exciting for me. But I am not a good programmer. I just know HTML, little CSS and little bit of javascript. I dont think this will be easy for me.

On that note, you will probably want to use a pre-built CMS. I have heard CMS made simple is quite easy to use (it had better be with a name like that!), and is good for people who know nothing about coding. I haven't used it myself, though I spent some time flipping around their site. I am a Drupal guy myself, but its got a fairly steep learning curve to learn.

How bout it?
In my experience, Joomla = Drupal; either would be a good choice.

I've heard a fair bit of bad press about joomla, though I've never used it myself. Some complaints were that its bloated, and not that easy to use.

Drupal is not that easy to learn, but very easy to use once you get the hang of it.

Here's an article with some reviews of some popular CMSs that can maybe help you out.

Ya haku,
After checking every aspect of Joomla and Drupal, I am going for Drupal. There are some security issues about joomla, moreover the links of Joomla are not search engine friendly. SEO is more important for me.
So Drupal is best in my opinion. It takes some extra time for developing website using drupal but I have started the designing process.
Wud like to take your suggestions during the designing process.

I've got a pretty solid handle on drupal, so feel free to come back and ask questions as they come up (a couple at a time please! More than that is overwhelming).

I would strongly recommend picking up a book on drupal. I learned a lot from this book myself. It's a really good step into using the admin screen of the program. If you know php and want to do some customizing, then the same company puts out a book on module development.

My advise would be to try Textpattern and get yourself Textpattern solutions book. This CMS software is well built and produces clean code with complete control over every aspect. The community is very strong and committed to developing the software.

I myself am learning the in's and out's of Textpattern in prep for building my own site and future sites.

Cheers

Steven
