I'm hoping that Streamline manage to check their Internet logs (maybe they need an upgrade for this *you will understand -read on*) and follow this post.
I recently had to develop a website for a client (who shall remain nameless). Usually most of my clients host with me, mainly because I know my own host well and any problems that may occur I can fix near instantly. Well this particular client had already bought their hosting and domain through Streamline.net because like most people they see pound signs (or dollars for the American readers) before quality. But hey, its only £14.00 per year and you get a FREE domain.. what can go wrong? Like alot of the cheap hosts Streamline do not give their customers full access to any of the hosting or domain functionality Want to change the domain's IPS tag? Well good luck with that... theres no option for it and in all honesty you most likely dont own that domain. Want to add a simple email forwarder or check if anyone is actually visiting your website? Well then you need an upgrade! Just an extra couple of pounds for a service which costs nothing! Want that domain control panel? (aka paying your domains ransom) well you need an upgrade for that my friend. Now I could live with this.. hey theres alot of hosts like this right? They must have their good points... i hoped. Okay i got my site up finally and now to add a simple php contact form. Huh? its not working... well turns out simple scripts aint so simple after all. You have to first remove the particular email from their filter systems before sending mail.. wait what was that? Ah dont worry heres an example script! It doesnt work! Great, okay maybe Customer Support can help me. *sends a support ticket* 1 Day later... hmm no response, but their site does say within 24 hours maybe they are just a little slow. 2 Days later .. no response still... maybe they need more information! *adds more information about the problem* 3 Days later ... still nothing... is this thing working? - Client wonders why their contact form aint working - 4 Days later ... wtf are they upto? the office halloween party cant still be on can it? (ill skip ahead) 6 Days later .. still no response, guess they just dont know simple PHP or dont give a toss. At this point I gave up in any solution, im pretty sure in about 30 years when Skynet blows up Earth my ticket will still be in that lovely queue. Time to do it on my host. Hey look at that working first time, no problems. Streamline for the love of god book your ideas up. Get rid of some of those nice sales people and employ some intelligent technical support. Streamline.net we own your domain, and if your stay with us your sanity too. -------------------- |

Thanks for the report, sir. Might I also suggest you be sure to have your client pay for all of this time you're wasting with the host they chose, if only to help them realize just how bad of a choice it was and that you shouldn't be the one losing money over said choice.

I was telling Dave that I'm done with dealing with the crappy hosts that people choose on their own. I think charging them for your extra time is a good solution.
