General Search Engine Optimization Tips
On-Page Optimization - Use semantic markup (h1 for headings, h2 for sub-headings then text) - Target keywords which have high visitation but low competiton. Word Tracker is a great tool. - Put targetted keywords in <title> seperate with a | or other character - Add <meta> descriptions and keywords eventho they arent largely used - Bold once and italic once your targetted keywords - If you want to spread page rank, then add more links from your index to sub-pages. If you want to stop leaking page rank remove links. - Always link to the full domain http://www.domain.com/ never to any index.html file. - Add targetted keywords to your footer but make it look natural - Add targetted keywords in your content sparingly. If added too much will be classed as spam. - Structure your internal linking correctly. Link between your pages using the desired keywords you want that page to be known for. Off-Page Optimization - Get all sites to link to your full domain http://www.domain.com/ any variances will be classed as different versions. - Get all incoming links to just contain the keywords your targetting. If for example i was targetting Mens Clothing. I would get the site to link to my site via the text Mens Clothing. - Get a range of PR to link to you to begin with. This is to show search engines you are a natural site. - Remember to get them to add the keyword in the title attribute of the link. title="Mens Clothing" - Make sure the title of the page thats linking to you is relevant to your site. - Be sure to check the exact page, not the main domain that is linking to you. - Get as many relevant sites as possible to link to you. Link Metro can help with this - Check who's linking to you regularly and make sure no one has removed a link. If so remove theirs. - Submit articles, tutorials, forum postings to websites for one way linking. - Do not link to any site which is either banned or using black hat seo. This hurts your rankings. -------------------- |
