IPB can do this automatically without us changing anything.

Any preferences?

We can flag the following on/off/etc:
  • Include the first post from each topic? - This will obviously increase the size of the feed, but I think it could be useful.
  • No of items to export? - 10?
  • The order of export - by last post, topic start date, rating? - Last post sounds best to me, to keep the feed fresh.
  • Which forums should be included? I think all the publically accessible ones, even Off Topic, as it's used all the time by our members.
  • Update frequency - 5 minutes?
Seeing as everyone will be using it, what are your preferences? We can create multiple feeds with different settings, but for now I feel that it would be better to have one feed to rule them all.

Yea, I agree with all that you've said, but do you really want it every 5 minutes? Thats quite frequently...

Well, part of the reason for having it is so that people can use it to get updated information...

I'm not sure if IPB creates some sort of internal cron job, or if it will get processed when somebody hits the site. I'll try to find out. We can always schedule it as a cron job and then it won't affect any users page loading times, but it won't use any more server load then you or I going to 'View new posts' and selected one or two of the links.

Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it's own.

That was me uploading a new version of that very file :-)

I usually close of the forum but I thought... what are the chances of someone hitting a page in the half second it'll take to upload this file...

... I suppose you answered that question!
