I made a logo for my upcoming site. Please tell me what you guys think. Suggestions for improvements, ideas, scrap the whole thing, etc, anything to make it better.

I'm not a web/graphic designer and this is my first logo, did it in PS. I know logos are better done with Illustrator, but I'm used to PS. :P

UPDATE: the logo should read pharmbase.com or might change it to ipharmbase.com (i tried to make the pill look more like a "P", hence the triangle shapes under the pill in the first attempt, or a smaller scale of the pill to match the size of the "H".
This site would be my personal site to provide pharmaceutical science info= PHM SCI media; (pharmacology, chem, bio), data sheets, and a blog.

These what I came up with:

Attached File  open_cap_logo_copy.jpg (57.67K)
Number of downloads: 15
Attached File  open_cap_logo2_copy.jpg (51.81K)
Number of downloads: 5
Attached File  open_cap_logo1_copy.jpg (52.57K)
Number of downloads: 4

Of those three, I prefer the first the most - it's the most symmetric. I do have to constructive criticisms:

1. I don't know what the site will be about base on the graphics and text. Could be that I'm not in a particular social circle, but it would be something I'd want to correct. (I don't know what PHM SCI MEDIA is)

2. The small graphical elements immediately above, and to the left of, the letter H seems to feel cluttery. Not the pill, mind you, but the small triangles of blue.

Also noticed, it just read HarmBase to me, I didn't see the P at all until you told me it was there.

Yeah, now that I've read your update to the first post, I had no idea that was meant to be the letter P. I'd recommend an entirely different approach altogether.

Ditto the others thought it was a bit odd, looked like Harm Base and had something to do with drug abuse based on what was coming out the cracked open pill

Does the pill idea have to be a part of the wordmark? Why not just put a P in, in the normal font (same as HARM), and use the pill shape somehow as an individual symbol. Then the logo is dynamic - you can use either just the wordmark, just the symbol, or a combination of both.

Hey, that's not bad at all! May I ask how'd you do those pellets, the small red and green circles?

Thanks!

Adding a real P makes a lot more sense -- I thought it was HARM base. :D

I like this one much better. The others read as "harmbase" to me as well. The tagline still bothers me a tad. Maybe there's a way you can distinguish the ".com" from the tagline by color, font, or even the weight of the font. Is the ".com" necessary to have in the logo? I've always wondered what others thought about this. I've been designing for 10+ years and I say it's common sense. But maybe others think differently about that.

I dont think its needed unless you have multiple domains like Google has every tld extension under the sun.

But if i was a client who had all the main tld .com .co.uk .net etc and preferred all visitors to come through the .com, i guess it would make sense then, otherwise not much.
