Hello everyone,

If you are interested to develop a website with easy to update from "admin" you can use Drupal CMS. Drupal is best for building search engine friendly content-based website.

Yes WordPress can be customized in any way you want so the pages don`t look anything like a traditional blog.
Plus you get the advantage of having a "Visual Editor" for WYSIWYG editing and uploading content.

A good book to get is :

WordPress Theme Design: A complete guide to creating professional WordPress themes (May 30, 2008) by Tessa Blakeley Silver

One caveat on all this though is that I`m not really a big fan of the Visual Editor.
When I edit pages using the VE it seems to do unfortunate things to my underlying code, like delete <p> tags for instance, leading to validation errors which ruffles my feathers :confused1:

It`s the only CMS I`ve used though so I can`t compare to Drupal or Joomla (the BIG TWO ).

A great WP Theme to download and use if you plan to redesign with you own is Elliot Jay Stocks "Starkers" theme. Its a stripped down wp theme with only basic css applied and well structured.

I am currently triying to get this WP cms to do what i want for my Portfolio site right now and i am using Starkers. Also if you use any version below 2.7 there is a nice simple CMS plugin that helps strip out unwanted admin options if you plan to let simpletons update the site. :rolleyes1: The problem is it doesnt work with the latest version and the developer says he wont re-design the plugin to work with the new admin UI.

I think Joomla tries to do more, ie, including forums, and I think a directory module, and more - but my impression is that none of these features are particularly well done. The forums themselves appear based on phpbb, which has such a serios history of security problems that I would never touch it with a bargepole.

Here is a great site to help you with using wordpress as a cms: http://wordpresscms.ithemes.com/

Pretty much 90% of what Vantage Street has been doing recently wordpress development. Let me know if you run into any problems.

@TWD The visual editor is a bit funny. It takes double spaces to make a paragraph. [ http://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_Posts#B...ces_For_Posting ]

Drupal and Joomla are clearly great programs that make a site easy to update and search. Here are some thoughts.

1) Joomla is easy to update. it is easy to create an attractive site.

2) Drupal is just as easy to update and with the growing number of template clubs is easy to create an attractive site.
