First check out http://mark.st/validator/ and click on the Validate button.

You will see each url loaded one at a time.

This is what I want, and I'm sure that Ajax is my answer somehow.

When you click on validate, I want it to load the WHOLE page with all the urls but where it says "Pass" and "Fail" atm, I want a loading gif that is replaced when the server receives the result.

A bit like how this website works: http://www.howsociable.com/ (Just type in some brand name)

Any pointers in the right direction?

Thanks, Mark

You need to use something like Prototype (http://www.prototypejs.org/), JQuery, etc.

If you're using Prototype you'll need to get familiar with Ajax.Request and Element.replace. There are similar methods in other Javascript libraries.
