Sophmore year i took an oracle class.
I learned alot with SELECT statements
and I must say, i like their functions.

I was wondering how much they cost
to get an oracle database, the only
database ive every used was MySQL
and it came with the host bundle.

May i remind you im still new ;)
so does any here have Oracle?

EDIT: I tried checking the site
but there are sooooooooooooo

In terms of learning SQL, there's very little difference between Oracle, MySQL and MSSQL. In fact most programming languages can use any of those databases.

Why, in particular, do you want to use Oracle?

You can (I guess) download Oracle Express for Windows, here:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/...2xewinsoft.html

But you might be better off trying MySQL, unless you have any specific reason not to?

You can get it at http://msdn.microsof...io/express/sql/

As Karl said SQL is pretty standard, you shouldn't have much trouble switching to mysql or mssql. The benefit to both being that they're commonly available on web hosting, strongly supported, tons of sample and docs, and free. MSSQL comes with a good GUI, mysql you'd want to get sqlyog or myphpadmin

I've never seen shared web hosting that offered Oracle. Also, as Oracle is more of an enterprise level database I've also found it much much harder to find useful information on the web.

I'm not an Oracle hater, it's just overkill and full of headaches for most web stuff.

Cat is correct - it's much easier to use either MySQL or MSSQL unless you're after an enterprise level system and even then there are compelling arguments to stay with them.

I would assume though, if you're using a Flash portal, that you have Flash on the client side and a server-side scripting language quering the database and serving content to Flash? If that's the case then the most common configuration is to use MSSQL with ASP and .NET and use MySQL with PHP, but you can swap and use pretty much any database with any technology you wish.

Oracle is very expensive database.....there only few using oracle most company here in the philippines use MySQL and MSSQL. But if you try to develop for large scale business software its better to use ORACLE. There are 3 types of database Stages regardless of what's there USE ill give you some Info.

1. MS ACCESS-is intended only for Small Scale Business.
2. MSSQL-is intended for Medium Scale Business.
3. ORACLE-is intended for Large Scale Business.

for me oracle is good to use but it depends on how and where to use and why you use ORACLE. :D

PS: Correct me guys if im wrong....

i didn't know that you need to pay for an oracle database.. isn't it downloadable..? moreover, despite the fact that there are more sql statements possible in oracle, still i think it's way much better to use MySQL..
