I want the visitor to be able to search for a certain disease and all the available treatments should be provided to him, all within the site's content. How can I do that?

What I intend to do is, have a list of the different organs of the plant, such as seeds, fruits, herbs and link them to their corresponding pages. Also i want a search box to enter a disease and then a combination of treatments from these organs should appear, if applicable.

Understand?

There are many search scripts you can use. Check Hotscripts.com, select your appropriate platform (those that your host provider supports), and search for "search".

Another alternative is to use the google search (Google Free Search Code).

Seconded. Site search can be a fairly intense thing to program if you find that no preexisting solution meet your needs.

Well, on average, a search function requires a database which stores all of the content on your site, and when a visitor performs a search, the database is queried, and all database fields that contain their query are returned as links (usually). Performing a search across all site content, without the use of a database, is either uncommon, less-accurate, or even non-existent*

*I'm probably wrong there.

You'd have to spider the site.

The best option would be to build a database of problems and the products that cure them.

Depends on how accurate the results need to be. but site search isnt simple im afraid.

not necessarily. where that is the best method, for a small site its a lot to code up. the best thing to do would be to make 'tags' specifying illnesses / remedys. or, if your content is database driven, search the content for the frequency of the search terms, perhaps?

What's the URL?

Bear in mind that the Google search will only work once Google has indexed your site! If you change something before Google has a chance to update it's cache of your site, then that won't be in the search results until the cache is updated. While Google's search is powerful, if content changes regularly on your site it's not the best solution. If you can wait a few weeks then it's a good solution...

Seconded. I put this function on a site and it took about 2 months for it to work, be patient.

Yes. As soon as you have people linking to your site, Google will pick you up and, after a few days/weeks, look at your site and eventually list you. It'll then periodically come back and update it's listing of your site.
